Old Larch Yurt

Pricing

Old Larch Yurt is priced for 2 people from £95 per night. All bed linen and towels supplied.

There is also room for up to two children or one adult sleeping on single mattresses, and a camp bed provided in the yurt: The cost for extra people is £15 per person per night. All extra people will need to bring their own bedding (sleeping bags) and towels, we supply pillows. There is enough space for a baby under 2 years in their own travel cot at no extra charge, but we do ask politely that you make provision to remove all nappies at the end of your stay. Owing to the abundance of sheep and lambs in the fields we are very sorry but we can NOT allow dogs, however well behaved.

Come and lose yourself in the heady world of the outdoors and experience the peace and tranquillity of natural woodland, with it’s diverse and abundant wildlife.

Decorated with a swirl of glittering saris, Old Larch is a seriously cool Yurt, once Flavia’s home in the Alps back in the 1980’s, it is now raised above ground on a platform at the edge of delightful woodland, with a great view. With it’s fully equipped kitchen on the sheltered deck and the fire-pit close by. You can cook, barbecue or make a pizza right here or choose to walk a mile down the lane to eat a first class meal in the pub.

Only a few steps away is your very own hut contains an odourless composting loo and a hot shower.

As dusk settles in light up the storm lanterns and roast marsh mallows over the open fire-pit, then when it gets dark, gaze at the starlit skies then snuggle into bed next to the wood-burning stove with oodles of fire-wood, to keep you warm and cosy for your stay.

Check out our “things to do and see” section for loads of ideas how to fill your time here, otherwise you can just while away the days basking in the hammock, reading, drawing or enjoy doing absolutely nothing at all!

We encourage our guests to conserve water, use less plastic where possible and recycle as much as they can during their stay. Our water is delicious and filtered so please resist the urge to bring plastic water bottles 🙂

There is an Ooni pizza oven on the deck with enough pellets for one cooking session, (a couple of pizzas) but you can purchase more if needed.

There is now an EV charging point at the house for the convenience of EV owners.

What our guests say

We booked for two nights at The Old Larch Yurt and had the best time. We really needed a couple of days away to reset and not worry about work or be tempted by technology. Richard and Flavia were the perfect hosts warm and welcoming. It did rain as expected but the Yurt was warm and dry. We had a beautiful walk up the hills when it dried off and a delicious pizza in the local pub on our last meal. Our son (11) said it was his best holiday. It gave us the space and time to reconnect as a family and recharge for our return to work and school. Tuppence the tame duck was a particular highlight for our son who also enjoyed his time exploring the woodlands and ponds around the Yurt. He spent many happy hours whittling sticks with the freedom to wander off into an imaginary world of wonder and nature. We loved finding the stone quarry and discovering the incredible fossils hidden in the rocks. Such treasures. Everything was catered for and we would definitely come again.

We were met by Richard who was really friendly and showed us the yurt and all the facilities. We had a lovely barbecue and explored around the yurt. The setup was really good with lots of thoughtful extras. The beds were lovely and the kids slept well. The next morning we explored some more and had a wander to the wishing tree. In the afternoon we took the boat out on the lake and the kids loved the treasure hunt. We had another barbecue (why wouldn’t you?!) and sat by the fire pit. We had such a lovely stay.

It was a pleasure to stay in such a wonderful, calming space. The Old Larch Yurt allowed for some much needed time from the modern world and away from every day distractions whilst feeling luxurious and comforting.
Listening to the rain whilst lying in bed reminded of tropical storms amongst the treetops.
It was also fabulous to meet one of the most friendliest ducks and take some time sitting under the boughs of the grand wishing tree.
Thank you again for your warm welcome and the opportunity to stay in such a splendid place- may have to make it a regular retreat!
Pippa – Aug 2023
Richard and Flavia are fantastic hosts who encourage you to roam and enjoy the scenery they have to offer, we feel lucky to have found the Old Larch Yurt because we have come home feeling more connected to each other, we laughed, tried new experiences and feel stress free, this is all down to the fantastic opportunity of staying at the yurt. Thank you Richard and Flavia for allowing people to share your grounds, your kindness and your love of offering people the chance to relax and unwind.
Dan – May 2023
Myself, my partner and our 5 month old baby have spent 7 days at Bodynfoel Hall, we stayed in the Old Larch Yurt and it was the most memorable holiday we have ever had. Not only was the yurt warm, cosy and beautiful but it reminded us that we need so little to be happy. We survived off solar lights, a log burner and a whistle kettle, we realised how much of the hustle and bustle of our daily lives at home had taken away the most important thing…quality family time! Being able to forget the outside world and being surrounded by nature has made us feel ourselves again.
Tash – May 2023
A wonderfully situated, comfortable and beautifully furnished yurt. The secluded location in the trees gives a peaceful and delightful aspect. The hammock, swing bench, BBQ area are all brilliant additions. The tree swing, wishing tree and kid's treasure hunt were all lovely touches to enhance exploration of the beautiful estate. We absolutely loved the freedom for the children to climb trees and play in the meadows; and rowing around the pond. Richard and Flavia were so friendly and helpful and we'll definitely be back!
Julie – May 2023
Stayed for 2 nights - wish it was longer. Family of 4 and it was exactly what we wanted. Super peaceful, really well equipped and the hosts were so nice.
Ollie & Gemma – May 2023
We've just returned from our 6th wonderful stay at Bodynfoel - this time in Old Larch. We've stayed in both yurts numerous times over the years and it's very difficult to choose which is best - I don't think it's possible - they both have their own idyllic charms! The encapsulated woodland of Old Larch makes you feel as though you're staying in a fairy-tale woodland while Jericho's wide-open spaces make you feel you're on the top of the world and have it all to yourself! Our 9yo thoroughly enjoyed having no screens or internet which says a lot about how charming this place is. Thank you again to Richard and Flavia for a peaceful, friendly and thoroughly enjoyable stay. We shall be booking again for next year!
Jen, Rob & Natasha – May 2023
We had a fantastic time! The yurt is very well set up and has everything you need. It is a very relaxed and peaceful place. The hosts are lovely and welcoming. We explored some walks around the yurt and had a go on the boat. It is beautiful. I will recommend it and hopefully come back.
Amelie & Zara – April 2022
Honestly, I think Old Larch Yurt (and you're not kidding, that is a very venerable tree!) is the closest thing to my idea of paradise this side of heaven. If I seemed a bit distracted while we were there it was because my kids have some additional needs which makes them sometimes hyper and rather hard to handle and I was worried about them being too noisy or breaking something. Still, we made some beautiful memories. They won't forget the swings or the treasure hunt in a hurry... I think that's the best treasure hunt we've ever taken part in, and they were happy, engaged and cooperative for well over an hour, which is always a gift. For me, it was all about the bird song, the astonishing ancient trees, and just the beautiful intimacy of the landscape. It had majesty, but in miniature. I loved it. So thank you for sharing your magical home with us. I'd love to come back, but perhaps not with the kids! :-D
Anna – April 2022
We all had a Wonderful time thank you and we can't wait to come back again with our new baby. I found my old wish on the wishing tree and me and Harry have tied our new ones next to that. Harry wanted to go back to the tree again and make another wish that the baby is a boy 😀. Powis Castle was lovely thanks and the kids enjoyed the Easter egg trail and the museum in the castle. Thanks so much for your lovely email, we let you know in June when baby arrives and send you a pic. We look forward to coming back again with our new edition and seeing you all again and hope you have a Fantastic Summer.
Hayley, Harry & Faith – April 2022
It could not have been better! The most magical location, everything we needed and more was provided, everyone we met was so friendly (including the duck!!)
Emma & Jonny – June 2022
We had a lovely relaxing stay - beautiful space, away from everything. Cannot fault it and would love to go back again!
Maxine & Dan – May 2022
We have stayed in quite a few places in the UK, but the Old Larch Yurt is probably our favourite place, ever! If coziness has a definition it's this place: Laying in the comfy bed and listening to the fire at night and then waking up in the morning in the forest, having a coffee on the veranda. This place is utter wonder! And Flavia and Richard are the perfect hosts: They're as warm and welcoming as the place and you really feel that their hearts are in this. We've been here already two times and it won't be our last!
Felix & Emily – August 2021
We had a lovely 5 days in a private wooded area of the estate. On arrival Richard greeted us and showed us around. Both himself and Flavia were around if we needed them for anything. We spent every evening around the fire pit, and the days out exploring the area. It was a shame it had to end.
Alan – April 2021
Truly magical. The setting is out of a fairy tale.
Leigh – April 2021
Richard and Flavia were absolutely lovely hosts and have thought of everything. The yurt itself is fabulously decorated and in acres of woodland and greenery. It was the perfect escape.

Viki – May 2021
We had a magical weekend in the Old Larch Yurt, in nature, cozy by the fire or walking around the estate. The yurt, which is very cute and cozy, and the location are absolutely amazing! The yurt is in a lovely woods and I can say I never heard so many birds singing in one place like this. The suroundings are very pretty, you don't need to walk far for amazing views or to go to the village for a pint, if you fancy. Richard and Flavia were very welcoming and nice and Tuppence the duck is a character - look him up!

Florina – May 2021
I can't get over how magical our stay was. Richard and Flavia have built an amazing home away from home. Old Larch Yurt is perfect for a stripped back to basics vacation away from the city. The whole area is covered in woodlands to get lost in with beautiful views and wildlife. I didn't want to leave! The yurt itself is beautiful inside and out and there are villages nearby if you need anything (we even managed to get out for a Sunday pub lunch to watch the euros!) We thought we would struggle finding places that are vegan friendly as the villages are small but there are 2 vegan restaurants nearby and all omni places had really good began and veggie options! Everyone we ran into or spoke to was so lovely and friendly. It really is the perfect getaway. Thank you so much Richard and Flavia for sharing such a magical place with us, we will be back! Ps shout out to Tuppence the duck that is super friendly and loves to run around your feet to welcome you.
Rae – June 2021
Had the most wonderful time. The yurt and location are truly magical. It was so peaceful to sit amongst the trees, birds and wildlife - it felt like a treehouse! We saw lots of different birds and heard owls hooting at night. The yurt itself was clean, cosy and the bed was really comfortable. The kitchen was also well stocked with everything you needed - simple but perfect. Lots of wonderful, equally magical walks directly from the yurt. Flavia and Richard have done a fantastic job making the whole experience friendly, pleasant and easy. I loved the feel of the place and how embedded in nature it was. Will definitely return!!
Natasha – June 2021
Never stayed in a yurt before, so particularly keen to share this experience with our granddaughter. A dramatic arrival and first night in the full ferocity of storm Francis only enhanced the warmth and comfort of the Yurt. The following day was a beautiful August day, exploring the grounds, treasure hunt and rowing boat.Evenings cooking by the campfire were magical. Flavia and Richard where attentive and accessible when needed, perfect hosts. The experience will live long in our collective memories.Ditch the technology and live a little!
Chris – August 2020
This was our first experience in a yurt and the Old Larch has certainly set an incredibly high standard for what we will definitely be looking for in the future. The décor, the location and the amenities were perfect.
Laura – August 2020

If you are thinking of booking but not sure please do, you won't regret it. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the old larch yurt and we cannot wait to come back again, it was exactly what we needed, a perfect getaway for our little family. Mornings on the balcony with a cup of tea listening to the birds, long walks, paddles in the river and the crazy swing for the adventurous, evenings by the fire roasting Marshmellows and then settling into bed with the fairy lights and log fire absolute bliss. The accommodation and grounds are so cosy, clean and welcoming. You really won't be disappointed. We felt like we were away from everything that's going on right now and we could just enjoy ourselves it really was perfect.

What an amazingly beautiful & stunning place!! We didn't want to leave!! A gorgeous yurt inside and out where they have thought of everything!! The stunnung inside of the yurt with log burner and window to the stars, with everything you need, the outside undercover kitchen area and decking for idillic breakfasts with visits from the friendly chickens, the bench swing, amazing views , surrounded by woodlands and the all day birdsong is incredible! A camp fire area complete with hammock, the compost loo and warm shower, drinking your water from their very own spring, marshmallows and toasting fork, maps for the most beautifully stunning walks with breathraking views, a little boat to take out on the boating lake! Wonderful, loved the yurt, enjoyed our walks, the wishing tree & loved the peace & serenity. Lovely sounds of wildlife & birds singing. Also enjoyed sitting around the fire roasting marshmallows. Very cosy in the yurt. Excellent hosts.
Mandy – May 2019
Brilliant yurt accommodation in a great location. Lots of interesting things to do with our 3 year old, particularly loved the boat, swings and friendly chickens.
Sandra – April 2019
Very peaceful, relaxing, another world. Flavia and Richard lovely and helpful.
Clare – April 2019
We stayed in the old larch yurt in the grounds of Bodynfoel Hall. The setting of the yurt was just lovely, we arrived just after sunset and all the solar fairy lights were lit up all around which looked so inviting we couldn’t wait to get started! The log burner was already set up to light which was a lovely touch so within 20 minutes we had a fire roaring away and could start some dinner in the brilliant little outdoor kitchen area. The grounds were plenty to take in, we ventured a little further and took a long walk in the hills and valleys surrounding and it was just perfect. The combination of fields and woodland was also good for us as we love walking in both. We were left alone to our little bubble but anything we needed the hosts were right there and more than happy to help. We took in some star gazing and even saw a few comets one night! I would recommend this stay to anyone who needs to forget their normal life and relax for a little while.
Katie – October 2018
We had a fabulous stay, Richard & Flavia have created a beautiful space with everything you need to have a relaxing break away from the pressures of modern life. The yurt was snug, comfortable and welcoming and we will certainly be going again!
Zoe – August 2018

We stayed at the Old Larch Yurt for Anna's 21st birthday - she wanted to do something different to the usual and we thought this was the perfect option. The estate was so secluded, and everywhere you looked was beautiful. Quiet, peaceful and quaint, with everything you could possibly need - we had an axe to chop wood, a wood burner to burn the wood, a campfire, a bench swing, a hammock, a toilet and shower, a little camping kitchen and endless miles of wonderful scenery. There was even a bag full of little pieces of fabric which we used to tie wishes to a nearby 300-year-old wishing oak tree. Everything was an absolute dream and two nights wasn't nearly enough. Richard and Flavia (the owners) did an incredible job, they were lovely people and the entire experience had a wonderful attention to detail. They truly care about the experience and it shows in every facet of the yurt and surrounding areas. We couldn't have asked for anything more! :)

Anna – August 2018
My two friends and I stayed in Old Larch Yurt for two nights. This is our 8th year glamping and our favourite so far. Beautiful yurt.. Richard and Flavia have decorated it beautifully to make it feel so cosy and comfortable whilst relaxing by the log burner inside. Excellent facilities with everything provided such as pans, plates, glasses and cutlery. The yurt is set in the most beautiful tranquil environment with acres of surrounding land to explore.
Michelle – August 2018
Two nights stay in a wonderful yurt with our two boys, aged 6 and 10. Lots of walking, rowing the boat on the Lake and swinging as high as we dare on the tree swing! BBQ's and toasting of marsh mallows in the evening, with reading and board games on the veranda by lamp light. Amazing place and time had by all! Richard and Flavia were both welcoming hosts.
Louise – August 2018
It was dreamy; the yurt was beautifully put together and private with our own sheltered kitchen area, fire pit, swing, hammock and solar powered bathroom. The grounds were beautiful and extensive and we spent our time exploring the woods and hills and following maps and children’s treasure hunts.
